Hands-on with Lumie Bodyclock Luxe 700FM: A gorgeous way to wake up

I’ve had my Lumie Bodyclock for about 10 days, and now that I’ve figured out how to configure the settings in a way that makes the most sense for me, it has become my New Favorite Thing that I own. Head below to learn more about the Lumie Bodyclock Luxe 700FM.

First impression

The most challenging thing about the Lumie Bodyclock Luxe 700FM was setting it up – with six buttons in addition to the five that allow you to pre-save radio stations, getting the hang of what each button does takes time. (In fact, I still am unsure as to how some of the buttons on the left side are meant to function, but it doesn’t really matter, since I’ve customized the settings.)

The directions were easy enough to follow when setting up which I appreciated, but I did have some difficulty figuring out what some of the icons meant while I was choosing various settings. For example, there is this little diamond icon that is either empty or full – determined by pressing the larger knob next to it – and what an empty or full diamond means was unclear to me for the first few days. Now that I’ve had my Luxe 700FM for over a week, I know that the diamond icon is designed to show you when you are editing a setting (it goes from empty to full, or not editing to editing). I had a few moments like this when navigating the buttons and the knobs, but now that I’ve got the hang of the important buttons, I don’t even need to use the rest of them.

The Lumie Bodyclock Luxe 700FM functions as a radio and an alarm clock, except the alarm clock is a digital sunrise, and you can add ambient sounds to ensure that you’re waking up as peacefully as possible. The primary reason I wanted the Luxe 700FM is because while using my phone as my alarm clock, I had built up the habit of hitting “Snooze” only to then immediately check social media for a few minutes. With the Lumie, I am able to wake up slowly with the sounds of “dawn” accompanying the sunrise I designed.

The coolest thing about the Lumie Bodyclock Luxe 700FM is the mimicked sunrise in the morning, but using one of its dials, the Lumie also functions beautifully as a bedside lamp no matter what time of day it is.

Adjusting the settings to get the sunrise to wake me up without it being too bright and without the soundscape being too loud took me a few days, and I’m close to perfecting it. It’s hard to know how loud you may need the sounds of “dawn” or “Osprey” to effectively wake you up in the morning without startling you, just as it’s hard to know how bright you may need the digital sunrise to be in order to stir you from sleep.

Once you get it right, though, it’s a real treat to wake up to. I have my Lumie Bodyclock set to a 15-minute sunrise, meaning that on a morning when the alarm is set to 6:00 a.m., at 5:45 a.m. the sunrise begins with its lowest, deepest color (a Mars red) and works its way up to the brightest shade – that I’ve chosen – by the time 6:00 rolls around. I do wish that the soundscape worked its way up to the actual alarm time in the way the light does, rather than turning on once the alarm time hits (i.e. at 6:00 a.m., the sounds of “dawn” will come through the Lumie).

Wrap-up

Even though getting accustomed to the layout of the buttons and all of the various functions can take some time to adjust and for you to figure out what you like, it’s 100% worth it once you do. I went from snoozing multiple times in the morning and checking social media on my iPhone to waking up slowly with the Lumie, with the sound of the birds and the wind.
